FAQ
Most frequent questions about EPR compliance, PPWR readiness, Authorised Representative services and packaging, WEEE and battery obligations in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Getting started
Who needs EPR compliance in the Czech Republic and Slovakia?
Any company placing packaged products, electrical or electronic equipment, or batteries on the Czech or Slovak markets must comply with national Extended Producer Responsibility rules. This applies to local manufacturers, importers, distance sellers and marketplace sellers, including foreign companies selling through Amazon, AliExpress, eBay, Allegro, Kaufland Marketplace, Temu and Shein. Compliance includes registration with the relevant authority, contracting a Producer Responsibility Organisation, paying eco-contributions and submitting regular reports. bin2green handles each of these steps for foreign sellers that do not have a local entity.
What is an Authorised Representative and when do I need one?
An Authorised Representative is a locally established entity that takes on the EPR obligations of a producer that is not established in the country where products are placed on the market. If your company is not registered in the Czech Republic or Slovakia, national EPR rules typically require you to appoint an Authorised Representative there before shipping packaged goods, electronics or batteries. The Representative signs the registration, submits reports and is the legal contact with the national authority and the PRO. bin2green provides this service for non-EU sellers active on European marketplaces.
Can I register myself instead of using bin2green?
Yes if you are an EU-established company. You can register directly with the relevant PRO (EKO-KOM in the Czech Republic, NATUR-PACK or ENVI-PAK in Slovakia, etc.), sign the contract, manage the quarterly statements and pay contributions yourself. If you are a non-EU company, most national rules require you to appoint a local Authorised Representative because national authorities cannot directly enforce obligations on entities established abroad. In that case bin2green handles registration, reporting and AR responsibilities for you.
How do I start working with bin2green?
Contact bin2green at info@bin2green.com or through the contact page with a short description of the products you place on the Czech or Slovak market: packaging types, electrical or electronic categories, battery chemistry, and the marketplaces you sell on. The team reviews which EPR obligations apply, prepares the registration documents and the Authorised Representative mandate where needed, and onboards you with the relevant PRO. From the first contact to the first compliant quarterly statement, the process is straightforward when the seller has the basic product data ready.
PPWR (EU 2025/40)
What is PPWR and when does it apply?
PPWR is the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, formally Regulation (EU) 2025/40. It entered into force on 11 February 2025 and applies generally from 12 August 2026. PPWR replaces the previous packaging directive across all 27 EU Member States with one harmonised set of rules: producer registration, labelling, restricted packaging formats, recycled content requirements and Authorised Representative obligations for non-EU producers. Sellers placing packaged products on EU markets need to be ready before 12 August 2026 to avoid suspension of listings on marketplaces.
What does PPWR change for non-EU sellers?
PPWR confirms and harmonises the requirement that non-EU producers must appoint an Authorised Representative in each Member State where their packaging is first made available. It also introduces harmonised labelling for sorting and material identification, restrictions on certain packaging formats from 1 January 2030, and recycled content requirements. For sellers exporting into the EU through Amazon, AliExpress, Temu, eBay or other marketplaces, the key practical change is that marketplaces are increasingly required to verify a valid EPR number and an Authorised Representative before allowing a listing.
Do I need to act before 12 August 2026?
Yes, in practice. Although PPWR applies generally from 12 August 2026, several Member States already require packaging EPR registration and Authorised Representative appointment under their existing national laws. Marketplaces such as Amazon and Allegro enforce EPR numbers well before the EU-wide deadline. Waiting until August 2026 to start exposes the seller to listing suspensions, missed quarterly reporting, and last-minute registration delays. The recommended approach is to register and appoint an Authorised Representative now and add the PPWR-specific requirements (labelling, formats) as guidance is published.
Packaging compliance
What are my main packaging obligations in the Czech Republic?
Under the Czech Packaging Act (Act No. 477/2001 Coll.), every entity placing packaging or packaged products on the Czech market has to: keep records of the packaging placed on the market, register in the list of obligated persons, ensure take-back and recovery of packaging waste through a contract with an authorised PRO (in practice EKO-KOM), limit heavy metals and hazardous substances in packaging, minimise packaging weight and volume, and submit the required technical documentation to control authorities. bin2green handles registration, the EKO-KOM contract and the quarterly statements on the seller’s behalf.
Do I have to keep records of my packaging?
Yes. The Czech Packaging Act requires every party that places packaging or packaged products on the market or into circulation to maintain records of those packaging volumes by material. The records are the basis for the quarterly statements submitted to the PRO and for the recovery and recycling targets. Failure to keep proper records can lead to a fine of up to CZK 1,000,000 (about EUR 40,000) under the Czech Packaging Act. bin2green collects the seller’s product and packaging data and turns it into compliant quarterly statements.
Which PRO covers packaging in the Czech Republic?
EKO-KOM is the authorised packaging Producer Responsibility Organisation in the Czech Republic. It operates the collection and sorting infrastructure used by Czech municipalities and collects the eco-contributions from obligated companies based on weight and material of packaging placed on the market. bin2green signs the EKO-KOM contract on behalf of foreign sellers under its Authorised Representative service and pays the eco-contributions on their behalf using the volumes the seller reports.
What about packaging compliance in Slovakia?
In Slovakia, packaging EPR is governed by Act No. 79/2015 Coll. on Waste. Producers placing packaging on the Slovak market must register, contract with an authorised packaging PRO and report volumes by material. The two main authorised packaging PROs in Slovakia are NATUR-PACK and ENVI-PAK. As in the Czech Republic, non-Slovak companies typically need a local Authorised Representative. bin2green provides this service for the Slovak market alongside its Czech offering, so a seller active in both countries can manage both registrations through a single contact.
WEEE (electrical equipment)
Who has to register for WEEE in the Czech Republic and Slovakia?
WEEE registration is required for any company placing electrical or electronic equipment on the Czech or Slovak market, in line with EU WEEE Directive 2012/19/EU and national implementing law. This includes manufacturers, importers, distance sellers and marketplace sellers. The categories covered range from consumer electronics, IT and telecom equipment, large and small appliances, to lighting, electrical tools, toys with electrical functions, monitoring instruments and medical devices. Foreign sellers usually appoint a local Authorised Representative to register, contract with a WEEE PRO and submit reports.
Which PRO covers WEEE in the Czech Republic?
Several PROs are authorised for WEEE in the Czech Republic. The most established is ASEKOL, which covers a broad range of consumer electronics and IT categories. ELEKTROWIN focuses on larger household appliances, and REMA covers specific categories as well. The right PRO contract depends on the categories of equipment the seller places on the market. bin2green identifies the categories first, then sets up the appropriate contract and quarterly reporting flow with the relevant Czech WEEE PRO.
Do you support all WEEE categories?
bin2green supports the EEE categories defined by the WEEE Directive, including consumer electronics, IT and telecommunications equipment, appliances, lighting, electrical tools, toys, monitoring and control instruments, and medical devices. Each category has its own reporting line and contribution rate. Before onboarding, the team confirms the categories that apply to the seller’s catalogue, since misclassification leads to incorrect reporting and potential fines.
Batteries
Do I need to register if I sell batteries or battery-powered devices?
Yes, if you place portable, industrial or integrated batteries on the Czech or Slovak market. The relevant rules come from EU Battery Regulation 2023/1542 and the national implementing legislation. This applies to standalone batteries (rechargeable or not) as well as products with integrated batteries (consumer electronics, electric vehicles, power tools, e-scooters). The producer is the company that first places the battery on the market in the country. Marketplaces such as Amazon now require a valid battery EPR number before allowing related listings.
Which PRO covers batteries in the Czech Republic?
ECOBAT is the authorised collective scheme for batteries in the Czech Republic. It runs the take-back network and the reporting infrastructure used by obligated producers. Foreign sellers contract with ECOBAT through their Authorised Representative. bin2green sets up the ECOBAT contract for non-Czech sellers, collects the volumes and chemistry data quarterly, submits the statements and handles the eco-contributions.
What changed with Amazon’s battery EPR enforcement?
Since 18 August 2025, Amazon enforces battery EPR requirements as a condition for listing batteries or products containing integrated batteries across its main European marketplaces, including Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain and Sweden. Sellers without a valid battery EPR number can have their listings suspended or removed. There is no dedicated Amazon Czech Republic or Slovakia storefront, but the Battery Regulation obligation still applies for any seller whose batteries are placed on the Czech or Slovak market through cross-border sales from other Amazon marketplaces. bin2green helps sellers meet both the EU Battery Regulation and the Amazon listing requirements.
Does bin2green handle all battery types?
bin2green supports portable batteries, industrial batteries and batteries integrated into electronic devices. For each chemistry (lithium-ion, nickel-metal hydride, lead-acid, alkaline, etc.) and each format the team confirms classification and contribution before onboarding. For specific questions or onboarding, sellers can email info@bin2green.com with the categories, types and brands of batteries placed on the market, the anticipated annual volumes and the marketplaces involved.
Foreign sellers and marketplaces
I am a Chinese seller on Amazon. Do I need bin2green?
If you place packaged products, electronic equipment or batteries on the Czech or Slovak market, you have EPR obligations regardless of where your company is established. Since you are not registered in the Czech Republic or Slovakia, you need a local Authorised Representative to handle the registration, the PRO contract and the reporting. Without that, your Amazon, AliExpress, Temu or other marketplace listings are at risk of being suspended once the platform asks for a valid EPR number. bin2green is set up specifically for foreign sellers in this situation.
Which marketplaces does bin2green support?
bin2green works with sellers active on Amazon, AliExpress, eBay, Alibaba, Temu, Shein, Kaufland Marketplace and Allegro. The Authorised Representative service applies regardless of which platform the seller uses, because the obligation comes from the country where the product is placed on the market, not from the marketplace itself. The team can help match the right EPR number format and producer ID to the marketplace’s compliance portal so that listings stay active.
Can bin2green cover other EU countries besides the Czech Republic and Slovakia?
bin2green focuses operationally on the Czech Republic and Slovakia, where the team has a local entity, dedicated PRO contracts and direct contact with the national authorities. For other EU markets, bin2green can coordinate on a per-case basis through partners or by extending the Authorised Representative service depending on the country. Sellers planning to expand should describe their target markets when contacting the team so the right setup is proposed from the start.
Pricing and process
How much does EPR compliance with bin2green cost?
Pricing depends on the streams concerned (packaging, WEEE, batteries, or a combination), the countries (Czech Republic, Slovakia or both), the seller’s volumes and the marketplaces used. bin2green publishes a transparent service model rather than custom quotes for every prospect. To get an exact figure, sellers share their product catalogue and expected annual volumes with the team. The fees cover Authorised Representative duties, registration, quarterly statements and the relationship with the relevant PRO. The eco-contributions paid to the PRO are passed through based on actual volumes.
How long does registration take?
For a foreign seller, registration can typically be completed within a few weeks once the required documents and product data are shared. The exact timing depends on how quickly the seller provides company information, signs the Authorised Representative mandate and the PRO contract, and confirms product categories. bin2green prepares the documents and submits the application to the relevant authority and PRO. The team can advise on which actions are the most time-sensitive depending on the seller’s marketplace deadlines.
What happens once I am registered?
After registration, bin2green submits quarterly statements for packaging, WEEE and batteries based on the volumes the seller reports. Eco-contributions are calculated using the PRO’s price list and paid through bin2green. A dedicated account manager keeps the seller informed of upcoming deadlines, regulatory changes (especially PPWR milestones), and any updates needed to the documentation. If a marketplace requests a copy of the EPR registration or producer number, bin2green provides it to the seller for upload.
